“City Pattern: Textile Designs of Yang Tzu Hsing & The Story of Gímgoânheng” showcases the textile designs, photography, and historical records of Taiwanese textile designer Yang Tzu Hsing, the fourth-generation heir of the 101-year-old textile shop “Gímgoânheng.” Through this exhibition, Yang weaves the rich cultural heritage of Taiwanese textiles into unique patterns, each telling its own story.
As a textile designer, Yang interprets elements of Taiwanese culture into distinct designs, while as the current owner of Gímgoânheng, he celebrates the shop’s 101st anniversary with a display of 101 photographs. These images capture the essence of Tainan City through the lens of a pattern designer, alongside family photos and records that chronicle Gímgoânheng’s legacy.
The exhibition poster draws inspiration from MATDOT Art Center’s architecture, which Yang explored, using the building’s color palette and structural forms to create the “Outer” design. Additionally, he developed a special pattern named “Inner,” reflecting elements from inside the building.
Visitors can explore Yang’s designs and the inspiration behind them. Admission is free, and exclusive souvenirs are available for purchase at the event.
