Inspired by the political conflicts in Thailand, this exhibition delves into the core of the turmoil that has unfolded over recent years. It raises questions about the existence and truth behind propaganda, the statements of public figures, and media headlines or social media content seen in contemporary society.
The work reflects on the evidence of hate created to undermine legitimacy and seize control over defining what is considered “good.” This process of media production, designed to foster hatred, has spread widely throughout society. It showcases the power of communication in shaping thoughts, beliefs, and attitudes, leading people into an endless cycle of manufactured conflict.
This ongoing phenomenon, seemingly without end, serves as the backdrop for “Fear, and Loathing in Déjà vu”. The exhibition presents representations of anxiety and hatred through borrowed imagery from stories, literature, and historical events across various eras and contexts. These narratives intertwine with the artist’s own memories, resulting in a series of paintings that challenge perceptions and provoke questions about past and present conflicts.
