We are taught about the cycle of life—birth, aging, sickness, and death—from a young age, as these concepts are included in the general education curriculum. We all know that we will one day face death, but despite this awareness, the reality often seems distant, especially among young people or those in the midst of a busy, competitive lifestyle in pursuit of happiness and success. Death can feel far off, almost as if it’s something that won’t happen to us in the present moment.

The denial of death may be a psychological mechanism to avoid the pain and uncertainty of life, but the truth is that death is inevitable and part of existence. Experiencing “fear of death” due to illness has made me realize the fragility and instability of life. Fear and anxiety began to unsettle my mind, but on the other hand, it became an opportunity for me to reflect on life and to face death with courage.

Facing death does not mean surrendering but preparing both physically and mentally to confront this reality with calmness. The depth of this preparation goes beyond mere acceptance; it involves reflecting on the past, learning to appreciate the present, and accepting change without attachment. Acknowledging that death is an uncontrollable part of nature is not about being pessimistic or devaluing life, but rather an essential step in preparing our minds for tranquility. This preparation not only equips us for departure but also helps us live a meaningful life. Understanding and accepting the reality of life’s end allows us to face each day with mindfulness and inner peace, making life meaningful in every moment, and turning death into a beautiful part of the journey.
