Description
SPACE OF PLASTIC | Exhibition by Pratchaya Charernsook
Plastic has become an essential need for living. The consumption and use of plastic plays a very important role in our daily life. The amount of plastic waste is constantly increasing, and at the same time it doesn’t disappear, but instead, it is decomposed, broken down, and infiltrated into the natural system, which has an impact on life, both in water sources, air, and surrounding areas. We often see plastic waste on the floor, or on the road but didn’t give it any special attention or decide to pick it up, as we may be used to seeing it. We may think it is not related to us, or sometimes you might not even notice it at all.
This exhibition invites the audience to experience and explore the space of plastic in nature, starting from larger elements to the size of microplastics. Through field visits to collect, record, sort, and organizing plastic waste, the artist invites the audience to observe the space around them by imitating how the plastic waste merges and infiltrates into the natural environment. This helps to raise awareness and understanding that we ourselves are part of the problem and that we can create a change in the plastic waste management behaviour from our own area to make sure we are not swallowed by the area of ‘plastic’. — Pratchaya Charernsook ( Artist ).
