Description
Patrik Budenz and Birte Zellentin, two German artists, collaboratively created the MACHT series, presenting 100 years of global political history through layered portraits of world leaders. The artworks displayed in the exhibition are the result of an extensive process involving thought, planning, and decision-making. This includes determining which figures should be featured, how to handle countries that were divided, newly established, or not internationally recognized, and addressing unique cases like Mao Zedong, who controlled China’s fate for 18 years as the “Supreme Leader” without holding any official position. These considerations are integral to the artists’ selection and presentation process. The artists liken this work to a gallery of rulers, providing a lens to interpret power structures and global political history effectively.
This process will be presented and thoroughly explained to participants in the MACHT series workshop on Friday, August 16th. Additionally, all attendees will have the opportunity to create their own artworks using the same techniques, with Patrik and Birte providing close guidance throughout each step.
