The Circle of Space

The Circle of Space group exhibition features works by Wichuda Khuntijit, Kanokwan Sutthang, and Apichaya Wannakit.

The exhibition explores the city structure, encompassing the environment, landscape architecture, buildings, roads, and parks, all within certain boundaries. Situated in a peaceful residential area in the heart of the city, this art space is connected to the bustling economic zones via the Bangkok transit system, highlighting the dynamic urban context of Lumpini, surrounded by department stores, housing, galleries, and parks. This area also includes the Bon Kai community, a vital part of the local economy.

Wichuda Khuntijit metaphorically addresses the area’s condition, focusing on individuals leading simple lives who form part of the city’s framework. Her work reflects on personal identity and the boundaries of living within societal structures, much like the resilient Little Hogweed adapting to its surroundings.

Kanokwan Sutthang examines urban spaces through the lens of unwanted plants. These plants, often overlooked and seen as nuisances, find ways to thrive in the city’s crevices. Sutthang’s work draws attention to these resilient plants, inspired by her observations and the quote from Winnie the Pooh: “Weeds are flowers, too, once you get to know them.”

Apichaya Wannakit communicates the dream state, blending reality and imagination to explore the relationship between personal and family spheres. Her paintings reflect her rural upbringing and the challenges of adult life in the city, using symbolism and metaphor to invite introspection and reveal the mysteries of memory and subconscious.

Visit KICHgallery to experience this exploration of urban and personal spaces from 18 May to 15 June 2024, open Tuesday to Sunday from 10:00 to 18:00 (closed on Mondays). Accessible via BTS Ploenchit exit 4.
